A black week for Namibia as five people burnt beyond recognition after their shack caught fire during the early morning hours of Saturday.

Five people of one family perished in a shack fire in the Windhoek's Havana Informal settlement. The fire started around four this morning, and only one member could escaped the inferno. She is currently in hospital with severe burns over most parts of her body. The cause is still unknown and although the Windhoek Emergency Services reacted swiftly the flames engulfed the whole kambashu ( shack ) in no time. The five charred bodies were still in their bed in one single room when the flames overpowered them. Bystanders only looked in shock as police removed the remains from the scene. Investigations continue, and the possibility of an open flame is not excluded. Their names, gender and ages will only released once they are identified by relatives.
