Raging veld fire north of Windhoek extinguished after destroying thousands of hectares.

This time of the year Namibia is plagued with veld fires as the veld is still lush with plenty of grass from the previous rainy season. Although this is often see by farmers as a blessing, it is also a curse as the dry grass is highly flammable and needs a small spark to start a fire. This past week Windhoek was covered with dense smoke as big mountainous areas north of the capitol burnt constantly as firefighters worked around the clock trying to control the blaze.
