World Biodiversity day May 2011.

Community forests plays a major role in the parts of Namibia where they
do exists. They are mostly found in the north central and north eastern
parts of the country, as the country is a semi arid area, with the Namib desert
on the western parts. The "Omauni' forest got it's name
from a fruit bearing tree growing abundantly. The fruits are also called
"Monkey Orange" due to the yellow-orange color. The Omauni
has a variety of purposes, as the fruit itself is tasty, healthy,
and high in nutrition. And the harder "outer shell" used for making cups,
containers for food and wateror decorations that earn the people an income.
The first part of a series of three inserts focus on our Minister of Environment
addressing the nation on the importance of our environment.
