COPPS 94.1 makes a tangible difference in our community as less crimes are reported on Friday nights.

COPPS 94.1 a joint venture between Windhoek City Police and Kosmos 94.1 is now 12 weeks on air. The idea is educating and sensitizing the public re fighting crime and how to prevent being the target of a criminal. Tonight's edition was more focussed on drinking and driving under the influence. Unfortunately some drivers did not pass the test and landed in the holding cells.

several vehicles were also impounded due to not be road worthy, while several drivers walked away with a few first prizes for failing to wear safety belts, using a cellphone while driving. One keep on asking when will people learn not to drive while under the influence or failing to wear a safety belt.

In a separate incident a driver allegedly ran away after he was involved in a accident in Katutura, his car a Bantam bakkie is a write off as the pavement he crashed into was a little harder than the old vehicle.

A taxi owner not only lost his vehicle after impounded by the City police as the vehicle was not roadworthy his customers also walked away without paying him a penny, after he was pulled over.

loose, and upon touching it to show the driver
about the dangers, it surely made a few sparks, posing
a fire hazard.

Tourism, Swakopmund is shaking their feathers for their 120th anniversary later this year. A young man is making a living from selling his handcraft to tourists and the main story revolves around the new WACS cable that will bring world class internet and other facilities to Namibia, and her Botswana counterpart. The Presidents of both Namibia and Botswana attended the function.

COPPS 94.1 brings you every Friday evening the real stories out there. From a distance the capitol seems at peace , but she is not, and for us to enjoy peace and stability, there are those special people who offer their time and families for our comfort.

COPPS 94.1 a joint venture between the Windhoek City Police and Private Radio station Kosmos 94.1 aims to bring our listeners the cold hard facts of what is really happening out there in the city. For many we take the City Police for granted. We do not understand the circumstances the men and women in blue have to face to ensure we sleep in peace, we as Namibians should consider to adopt a culture of respect and understand the role of the City and Namibian Police as they are out there in the cold facing the elements to ensure we are safe, we are protected, we are taken care of. Just imagine Windhoek or Namibia for this exercise without law enforcement? No law,,,no respect,,,no peace,,,but drugs!, anarchy!, murders! rapes!, hijackings!, theft! robbery!,,,,the list is endless. To control this we need to understand and respect our law enforcement agencies. Therefor COPPS 94.1 was born to help us understand what they must go through for us.

The loot of a joint "crime venture"

alcohol remains an issue. most of all
cases of rape, assault or even murder
alcohol played it's role.

sad picture,,is this what we want to be?
a Nation of drunkards?
are we really try to strive to reach
Vision 2013 with this among us?
and then when the City Police try to protect us
from ourselves, we despise them cause they invade our freedom.

The owner of Farm Windpoort close to Kamanjab was flown to Windhoek by ISOS late this afternoon after he was attacked by a rhino on his farm. Tim Ossborn was according to sources in the field hunting with a guest when tragedy struck. Ossborn was treated and flown from his farm to Epacha Lodge by Tsumeb based Expedite Aviation  before airlifted from Epacha Airstrip to Windhoek. The patient sustained various fractures. According to information the black Rhino threw him twice like a rag into the air before leaving the helpless body of Ossborn alone.

Too many Namibians are caught in the web of drugs and other substances, as a result the health ministry embarked on a campaign to make more people aware of the dangers drugs pose to their health, their families and the country. Shortly after the interview with health minister Dr. Richard Kamwi on illicit substances the Namibian Police confiscated about 280 kilograms of dagga on a truck from South Africa.

Three South Africans gonna stay a long time behind bars after caught in possession with cannabis. Namibian Police vowed that they will do everything in their power to ensure drugs and their owners and distributors will find no way to establish them within the borders of Namibia. Aaron Kakane 49, James Mukwena 37 and Bukelwa Mudolo 44 years all appeared in court and will now face the law.

COPPS 94.1 offered enough action for one night to make one realize what our officers had to face every day of their lives.

COPPS 94.1 ensured enough scenes and action to make one understand the circumstances under which our members of the City Police and Namibian Police must operate to ensure our city is a better place for all. To start of it was not all about crime and policing, but the City Police assist the Round Table Welwitchia 1 & 2 chapter in handing out blankets and soup to the city's homeless. The cold facts are there are those wandering the streets in search for food or warm clothes or even a proper place to sleep. Although the cup of soup might be something small or the blankets are not imported, but that little hand out means a lot to those people.  And again crime played a role in the city with one case of robbery that was reported to the City Police. The incident took place in the Suiderhof suburb after a group of around six men robbed an old man of his wallet and cellular phone, while three incidents were reported of taxis involved in crashing into houses across the city. The first incident was reported in Havana informal settlement after a taxi driver lost control and crashed into a shack ( kambashu) while the second case was reported in Khomasdal after a taxi driver also burst  through a boundary wall, and the last case was in Katutura whereby a taxi driver also ended up in another yard after speeding. In all three cases driving under the influence is not excluded. COPPS 94.1 is a joint venture between Kosmos 94.1 and the Windhoek City Police.

Rio+20 Namibia was there 1992, and twenty years later we still stand tall among giants when it comes to effective land management. Our Environment Commissioner spoke to me from Rio on Namibia's roll at the Earth Summit.

Rio + 20 is currently taking place in Rio de janeiro Brazil. Namibia was part of the 1992 summit, and again our country is represented with a small yet powerful delegation. To present Namibia to the world a short DVD was complied.

random pics of our Namibia, we are represented by the RIO+ 20 summit, and our heritage and environment is world renowned among tourist.

It is now 20 years ago that Namibia took part in the first World Summit in Brazil, and now twenty years later,  Namibia has a delegation at the Rio + 20. Our role in the global preservation for the future cannot be underestimated, as our Government  -  most likely the only in the world - embedded conservation in our constitution. This is evident in the amount of national parks and conservancies in Namibia. You can look forward to an exclusive with our Commissioner of Environment direct from Rio de Janeiro on my blog.

An issue not unique to Namibia, but all over Africa "election promises" made to the masses, and when the services most politicians promised must be delivered? Nothing! Again the masses are right where they were before all the empty promises. This morning Goreangab residents was again at the receiving end at the costs of those who are suppose to bring development to them.

Poaching in Namibia?

Poaching in Namibia? the ministry of environment last week claimed there are NO poaching taking place in Namibia. The past week or so I received several tip offs of poaching of lions, elephants, hippos and other game in the Kwando/Kongola area. I want to believe that,  as i saw two years ago how a hippo calf was poached by Kavanago's and Angolans about a 100 kilometers from Divundu in the Kavango region. Upon confronting the game wardens of that area their "lame excuse was "it's Sunday and they will investigate Monday" Why do several people from various sources keep on sharing that with me?, and the environment department claims all is kosher?. The picture below is a group of herders I met last year and they openly admit they do shoot any animals in their region regardless protected or not. Here they showed us the traditional weapons they make use of.
