UPDATE On BREAKING NEWS AS PER NAMIB TIMES ON BURNING VESSEL .

                                   Ship on fire close to beach


Emergency services from Swakopmund and the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources had to come to the rescue of the crew of a cable laying vessel the Chamarel in the vicinity of mile 68 north of Swakopmund. Initial and unconfirmed reports indicated a fire broke out on the bridge and spread to the rest of the vessel. The Fisheries patrol vessel Nathaneal Maxwilili was sent to the rescue of the distressed vessel and according to the Namib Times a coastal newspaper all crew were rescued and taken to Walvis Bay. Namport indicated they and their partners will most likely issue a statement later this afternoon.
