A town's tourism industry is held hostage between town council, the lessee and the Directorate of Civil Aviation. The airport sustains more than the tourism industry, it provides employment to aircraft mechanics, fuel attendants and security staff among others. The real issue on why the airport was closed is not clear, but indications are that an agreement between town council and the airport "owner" is in dispute due to the fact that the lessee did not maintain the infrastructure.
