Heroes Day approaching August 26 Namibians are preparing for the day that marked the beginning of our independence 23 years ago.
Namibia's Independence on March 21 1990 did not come cheap nor easy as the liberation struggle that started August 26 1966 claimed many people, young, old, men and women. I travelled to historic places during Namibia's fight for freedom, spoke to several former "PLAN" fighters, while some of them escorted me to battle sites between the former SA armed forces and the combatants. The battles were fierce, many lost their lives, relatives, husbands, wives and children. But the struggle was not in vain, as we now celebrate 23 years of independence from the former Apartheid South Africa. Namibia press will soon bring you the interviews, stories and "jubelation" of those who survived to tell the stories of fallen heroes and heroines. We walked in their foot steps, we walked on the former battle grounds, we paid a visit to the old grave sites to bring you the stories of our freedom fighters.
